Traditional Moussaka Spice Mince Mix - Gluten Free

A blend of herbs and spices to create the perfect authentic tasting moussaka mince.

Ingredients

• Lean Mince - 400g
• Moussaka Mince Mix - 100g
• Water or stock - 300ml
• 2 large Aubergines - sliced
• 1 onion - finely chopped
• 550g potatoes - peeled and sliced
• 200g chopped tinned tomatoes
• 2tbsp tomato puree
• 400ml bechamel sauce (home made or a jar)

Method

• Coat the aubergine slices in oil and fry on each side until softened, set aside on kitchen paper to dry, par boil the potato slices for 5 minutes then set aside to dry.
• Add the mince to a pan and cook until brown, add the onions and cook further until softened.
• Add the moussaka mince mix and stir until combined, add the water/stock and stir again, bring to the boil.
• Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato puree and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes or until thickened.
• In a casserole dish, layer the meat mixture, aubergine and potato like you would a lasagne, top with the bechamel and oven bake for 50-60 mins or until golden brown.
